Local volunteer writes to Kansas City Star

CCL volunteer Jennifer Brown wrote a letter to the Kansas City Star:

“Whew, it’s hot! So hot there is an excessive heat warning from the National Weather Service and our children are having recess indoors this week. I hear NASA is calling July 2023 the hottest month on record, globally since 1880.

We are just home from vacation in Minnesota, where smelly, smoky air hung over the lake for the 3rd year. Something I have not seen in 50 years of summers there! Apparently it’s from Canadian wildfires which have burned some 25 million acres. Back home in KC I see a lot of damage. Homes, fences and trees are still torn up from dramatic summer storms.

Sometimes the climate crisis can feel overwhelming. But I think it is important to realize that great ideas are being considered in Congress, and they just need a little push from ordinary people. Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a nonpartisan, grassroots nonprofit organization working to find, create and support climate legislation. If you want to make a difference, join me in writing our members of Congress about climate bills every month, at cclusa.org/action.”

Volunteer with CCL in Kansas to start writing your own local media about the climate impacts you’re seeing and the solutions you want Congress to support.
