Take action

Let your members of Congress know you care about climate change

Everyone has two Senators and one Representative in the U.S. Congress. In order for our members of Congress to represent us well, we have to tell them what we want them to do. Now is a great time to introduce yourself and the issues you care about most.

How it works

Email your Members of Congress.

We’ll get you started

The tool autogenerates a message for you, but research shows that customized messages have the greatest impact.

Personalize your message

Feel free to keep it a short and sweet personal introduction, or use the prompts below to craft a compelling climate story.

your climate story

Stories move people better than facts alone

Sharing your personal experience can help you connect and build a relationship better than relying on arguments or data. It can help make your first message to Congress even more compelling. Here are some ideas to get you started.

See our Climate Storytelling training

  1. A climate impact story Have you felt the impact of climate change in your own life or your own community? (Think smoke-filled skies from wildfires, or more days of extreme heat.) Let Congress know what you’ve seen and why you’re concerned.
  2. A climate solution story Climate progress is happening every day. Have you seen a local solar company growing and creating jobs? Do you love your electric car or your heat pump? Encourage Congress to keep going toward our clean energy future!
  3. A climate motivation story We all have our “why.” Share with Congress why you are personally motivated to work for a stable climate, whether it’s your kids or grandkids you want to protect, the beautiful places you want to preserve, or something else.

Frequently asked questions

Will my Members of Congress listen to me?

Yes! Sometimes it may feel like Congress isn’t paying attention to what people want, but in reality, congressional staffers take every call and voicemail and read every email their office receives. Staff pass these onto their Member of Congress in regular briefings. Congress works for you, and they want to know what their constituents care about. You may receive a generic email in response, but your message was still received loud and clear.

Why do we need a Prefix to our name to email our Senator?

Members of Congress require a prefix for emails that are sent to their office. We acknowledge that the prefixes provided do not encompass all gender identities. Unfortunately it is Congress that sets these prefixes and so we are required to use the ones that are currently accepted by the majority of offices.

How else can I help?

You only need to email once yourself. Then, share this page with any friends, family and coworkers who want to introduce themself to their members of Congress, too!
